Karam Chand Gupta (born 5 August 1952) is working as an Assistant Professor in Chandigarh University, Gharuan (Mohali), India. He came into limelight after inventing civil formulas recognized worldwide. He did Bachelor of Engineering in Civil from Guru Nanakdev Engineering College, Ludhiana in 1975. He worked for 33 years in Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Chandigarh, Punjab, India and retired from there as a Superintending Engineer. After retirement he started working as an Assistant Professor / Academic Coordinator in Chandigarh University.
After few months keeping in view his interest, university deputed him to look after the research work. He derived a formula named KC’s Mesh Formula that has been accepted worldwide and he attended many conferences thereafter in India and abroad. With the help of this formula one can calculate the quantity of steel bars placed in circular concrete slab, in spherical dome or any other irregular shaped geometry within seconds. On September 3, 2015, he had gone to Bangkok to present his formula in International Conference organized by International Institute of Engineers and Researchers. In this conference he acted as Technical Session Chair also. Patent on this formula has also been filed on 30.03.2016.
He also invented Ellipse Formula to draw Ellipse on the ground for elliptical structures for which the patent has also been filed.
He is a life member of Institute of Engineers, Kolkata, India (M035337), Indian Water Works Association, Mumbai, India (LM 02253) and The Indian Society for Technical Education, New Delhi (LM 96416).
